Plumbing buying guide

WaterMark certification

Any plumbing product connected to a drinking water or sanitary drainage system in Australia must be WaterMark certified. Uncertified fittings bought online can fail inspection and have to be replaced, which usually means opening finished work. Everything we supply in this category carries certification.

Coordinating with waterproofing

Plumbing penetrations are where wet areas leak. Coordinate the rough-in with the waterproofer so puddle flanges are set correctly, penetrations are kept clear of junctions where possible, and the membrane can terminate properly into the waste body. Sequencing this well is the cheapest defect prevention available on a bathroom.

Isolation valves

Fitting isolation valves at each fixture during rough-in costs very little and saves shutting down the whole house every time a tap or cistern needs service. On renovations it is worth adding them even where the existing installation has none. Position them where they can actually be reached — a valve buried behind a fixed panel is no better than no valve at all.

Licensing in NSW

In NSW, plumbing and drainage work must be carried out by a licensed plumber, and certain work requires a certificate of compliance lodged with the relevant authority. We supply the materials to trade and to owner-builders, but the installation itself needs the licence. Uncertified work causes real problems at sale or insurance claim time, well beyond the immediate compliance question.
