Water for wet cutting

Wet cutting is the most effective silica dust control available, and it needs reliable water at the blade. A kinked or undersized hose starves the feed and the blade runs dry, which defeats the purpose and destroys the blade. Use a hose rated for the pressure and keep the run as direct as possible.

Fittings and standardisation

Pick one quick-connect system and stay with it across the crew. Mixed fitting types are the main reason site hoses leak, and adapters between systems are the first thing to fail. Brass fittings outlast plastic considerably in site conditions and are worth the difference on hoses that get dragged across concrete daily.

Hose quality and kinking

Store hoses coiled loosely rather than folded, and drain them before storing in cold conditions. A hose left in the sun full of water degrades from the inside.

Site water and runoff

Wash-down water carrying cement, slurry or chemicals must not enter stormwater — that is a genuine compliance issue on any Sydney site, and the penalties are significant. Contain slurry, let solids settle, and dispose of the water appropriately. Keep a bunded washout area rather than rinsing tools over the nearest grate.
