Chemical compatibility
Solvent-based products destroy standard spray bottle seals within a job or two. Use a sprayer with Viton or chemical-resistant seals for solvents and acids, and keep separate, clearly labelled sprayers for different chemistries. Cross-contamination between an acid cleaner and a sealer sprayer ruins both the sprayer and the surface.
Labelling and decanting
Under NSW work health and safety requirements, any decanted chemical must be labelled with its contents and hazards. Beyond the legal requirement, an unlabelled sprayer is how the wrong product ends up on a finished floor. Label at the moment of decanting, never afterwards, and never decant into a container that looks like a drink bottle.
Even application of sealers
Sealers applied by sprayer need a consistent, overlapping pattern and then working in with an applicator pad or microfibre — spraying alone leaves heavy and light areas that show as patchy sheen once cured. Keep the nozzle a consistent distance from the surface and move at a steady rate rather than pausing, which floods the surface.
Maintenance
Flush sprayers with clean water or the appropriate solvent immediately after use and release the pressure before storing. Product left in a sprayer overnight clogs the nozzle and can set inside the pump. Keep spare nozzles and seal kits for the sprayers you rely on, because they invariably fail mid-job rather than in the shed.
