Wall-Faced Pans buying guide

Why wall-faced dominates renovation work

Concealing the trap removes the hardest part of a bathroom to clean and makes the room look considerably larger. The trade-off is set-out precision — the waste position has far less tolerance than a traditional S-trap or P-trap suite, and there is no adjustment once the floor is tiled.

Floor fixing and sealing

Wall-faced pans are floor-fixed, usually through concealed brackets or fixing points inside the pan footprint. Drilling into a tiled and waterproofed floor to fix a pan puts a hole straight through the membrane, so the fixings must be sealed as they are installed. Use the manufacturer's fixing kit and bed the pan onto silicone rather than leaving an open gap at the floor.

Adjustable connectors

Where an existing waste does not quite match the pan set-out, adjustable pan connectors give a limited amount of offset without moving the drainage. They are a legitimate solution within their range but not a substitute for correct set-out — pushing a connector to its limit restricts flow and can cause blockages.

Rimless designs

Rimless pans have no enclosed rim channel for bacteria to collect in and are considerably easier to clean properly. Flush performance is generally as good or better, since the water is directed around the full bowl. They cost slightly more and are worth it in any bathroom where hygiene or ease of cleaning matters, which is most of them.

Frequently asked questions

Can a wall-faced pan replace an existing S-trap suite?
Often yes, if the waste position matches the pan's set-out. Where it does not, the drainage needs modification or an adjustable connector.
How is a wall-faced pan fixed down?
Floor-fixed through concealed brackets, with the fixings sealed where they penetrate the waterproofing.
Is a rimless pan worth the extra cost?
For ease of cleaning and hygiene, generally yes. The flush performance is comparable or better.
